FirstGen Forward Network Champion

FirstGen Forward recognized North Carolina Central University as one of fourteen (14) institutions of higher education selected to its inaugural class of FirstGen Forward Network Champions. Network Champion institutions are an exclusive group serving as national leaders in advancing first-generation efforts and contributing to an important knowledge base of evidence-based practices, leadership engagement, and scaling student supports. This designation is managed by the Department of Student Access and Success Programs.

First-Generation Student Success

First-Generation Student Success Initiatives provides intentional academic, personal, social, and professional development services for students who are the first in their families to attend college.

LCI-Student Accessibility Center

The LC Industries (LCI)-Student Accessibility Center (SAC) provides accommodations and support services to NCCU scholars with a learning difference, disability (physical, learning or psychological) or medical condition.

Summer Access and Success Program

The Summer Access and Success Program is a virtual four-week summer enrichment program to aid newly admitted freshmen and transfer students in their transition to North Carolina Central University if they are first-generation, low-income, and/or live with a disability.

The TRIO Student Acce[SSS] Program (SSS-Accessibility) assists undergraduate students who are registered for accommodations.

The TRIO STEM Success Program (SSS-STEM) assists undergraduate first-generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities who are pursuing degrees in STEM-related majors.

The TRIO Teacher Preparation Program (SSS-TEACH) assists undergraduate first-generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities who are pursuing degrees in education-related majors.

Departmental Services

Our programs and services provide holistic academic, financial, and personal support designed to empower students for success from enrollment through post-baccalaureate achievement.

TRIO Student Access and Success Conference

This national conference connects students with graduate schools, employers, and campus resources while promoting college access, persistence, and post-baccalaureate success.

Accommodations

Students can receive individualized academic accommodations and support services that ensure access to learning for students with documented disabilities.

Tutoring and Academic Support Services

We offer targeted tutoring and academic assistance designed to strengthen course performance, study skills, and overall academic confidence.

Peer Mentoring and Staff Coaching

Personalized mentoring and coaching support students’ academic planning, goal setting, and successful navigation of the college experience.

Faculty/Staff ADA and First-Gen Student Success Trainings

Professional development opportunities equip faculty and staff with tools to better support students with disabilities and first-generation students.

Graduate School Prep Assistance

Guidance and resources to help students explore, prepare for, and successfully apply to graduate and professional programs.

Financial Literacy Education and FAFSA Assistance

We offer workshops and one-on-one support opportunities that build financial knowledge, assist with FAFSA completion, and promote responsible financial decision-making.

Undergraduate Research Exposure

We offer opportunities for students to engage in research experiences that strengthen critical thinking, academic inquiry, and preparation for advanced study.

Career Coaching/Counseling

Career exploration, resume support, and coaching services help students clarify goals and prepare for internships, employment, or graduate study.

Scholarship Support

We offer assistance in identifying, applying for, and securing scholarships to help reduce financial barriers and support degree completion.

Student Leadership Opportunities

Leadership development experiences empower students to build confidence, advocate for themselves and others, and engage meaningfully on campus.

Events and Socials

Intentional programs and community-building activities support well-being, student success, and engagement beyond the classroom.
