138th Commencement Exercises

NCCU will celebrate its fall 2021 graduates on Saturday, Dec. 11. The Baccalaureate ceremony will be held at 9 a.m., and the Graduate and Professional ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. Both ceremonies will live stream on NCCU.edu and the university's official YouTube channel.

Johnson O. Akinleye, Ph.D., was elected as the 12th Chancellor of North Carolina Central University on June 26, 2017. Through his leadership, Dr. Akinleye has worked to expand the university’s academic partnerships, including new agreements with community colleges, and introduced to the campus a robust online, distance-education program (NCCU Online), K-12 initiatives, and a security strategy to increase safety for campus constituents.

NCCU Biomedical and Biological Sciences students Chisom Ezenwenyi and Philomena Onasanya were named American Heart Association HBCU Scholars, a program that aims to close the gap in health disparities by supporting scholars seeking careers in biomedical and health sciences.

Ibrahim Cissé, Ph.D.

NCCU alumnus Ibrahim Cissé, Ph.D., ’04 was named one of 25 MacArthur Foundation ‘Genius’ Fellows in the Class of 2021. The MacArthur Fellows Program honors talented individuals who “have shown extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction.”
