Simone Spencer serves as the assistant director for Student Success and Engagement, where she supports undergraduate Student Accessibility Services (SAS) scholars through the TRIO Student Acce[SSS] Program. In this role, she helps students build the social capital necessary to thrive both on and off campus. Moreover, Simone implements interactive workshops focused on leadership, career readiness, and mental health development while also collaborating with community partners to enhance these efforts.
Simone also supervises program staff and coordinates the Peer Academic Leader (PAL) program, which pairs first-year, first-generation students with upperclassmen mentors to assist with their transition to university life.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in African American Studies from UNC Pembroke and a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from North Carolina State University. In addition to her campus responsibilities, Simone is actively involved in two NASPA knowledge communities and frequently facilitates leadership workshops on topics such as goal setting, congruence with values, student advocacy, and strengths-based development.
