Chancellor Karrie G. Dixon serves as the chief executive officer for NCCU, a community of 8,579 students, 1,638 faculty and staff, and more than 47,000 alumni. As the university’s leader, the chancellor charts a visionary course for the university and leads a team of senior administrators in promoting the university’s mission as well as directing and sustaining the intellectual, fiscal, and physical health of NCCU.
The Board of Trustees serves as advisor to the University of North Carolina Board of Governors and the Chancellor and helps to guide NCCU forward toward the future.
The Business and Finance division manages the university’s money, cleans and maintains its physical plant, heats and cools its facilities, beautifies its buildings and grounds, and oversees or generates entrepreneurial enterprises that support student scholarships.
The Office of Communications and Marketing is the central communications office for North Carolina Central University, telling the stories of the university while also promoting NCCU’s mission and protecting its brand. The office works in partnership with divisions throughout the campus and uses various strategies to amplify NCCU’s message to multiple audiences (e.g., through media relations, social media, photography, publications, and marketing initiatives).
External Affairs and Government Relations work cooperatively with elected officials from various local, state, and federal government entities. Our relationship is built upon key legislative issues that affect the university and the surrounding community. This area is responsible for engaging key stakeholders and university constituents in collaborative projects to enhance resources for educational programming.
The Senate is a faculty-elected body consisting of faculty representatives from each department and school.
Information Technology Services (ITS), in collaboration with the campus community, provides technological solutions and services for students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of the University's mission and strategic plan.
The Internal Audit Office is dedicated to adding value to the university through continuous improvement, risk assessment, and internal controls evaluation efforts. The office is obligated to maintain high standards of competence, objectivity, and integrity in serving all departments and constituents of the University.
The Office of Legal Affairs provides comprehensive legal advice and assistance on matters involving or affecting the institution to the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor, other senior administrators of the University, faculty, and staff.
The Office of Partnerships and Cooperative Agreements facilitates alliances with universities, businesses, and other entities to expand and enhance the mission and success of NCCU.
NCCU's Police and Public Safety Department ensures a safe and secure campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors through activities that include crime prevention and investigation, community service programs, traffic law enforcement, emergency management, safety training, and crowd control.
The North Carolina Central University Staff Senate serves as the official representative body for staff, advocating for their interests and fostering open communication between staff and University leadership. It plays a key role in enhancing staff engagement, promoting professional development, and addressing workplace concerns to improve the overall campus environment. Additionally, it supports initiatives that align with the university's mission and strategic goals.
The Office of Strategic Planning and Assessment provides strategic insight, leads and coordinates the university’s planning efforts, and acts as trusted counsel to senior university leaders, as well as divisions, departments, colleges, and schools, in producing initiatives and strategies that enable NCCU to fulfill its mission of teaching, research, and scholarship.
North Carolina Central University receives Title III, Part B, Part F, and HBGI funding from the US Department of Education. These funds are used to build capacity for the University to attain its mission and goals in these four focus areas: Academic Quality, Fiscal Stability, Institutional Management, and Student Services and Outcomes. The Title III Programs Office provides programmatic and fiscal oversight of the many activities supported by this federal funding.
NCCU is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of the University community. Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in federally funded education programs and activities. Title IX plays a critical role in helping ensure that every person affected by a school’s operations, including faculty, staff, and students, is aware of his or her legal rights under Title IX and that the school and all of its employees, through its policies, procedures, and practices, complies with its legal obligations.
