Program Services

Scholarships and Grant Aid

SSS-STEM scholars can apply for scholarship funding through the program to provide debt relief and assistance with accomplishing financial goals.

Tutoring, Coaching and Counseling

SSS-STEM staff members, tutors, and peer academic leaders (PALs) provide 1:1 coaching, small-group support and general guidance to aid students academically, personally and professionally.

Graduate School Prep Assistance

SSS-STEM scholars receive assistance completing graduate school applications, developing personal statements, completing the FAFSA and developing skills that will make them competitive applicants.

Financial Literacy Education

SSS-STEM offers program participants the opportunity to learn about budgeting and saving, investing, credit, loans and strategies to help promote effective financial stewardship.

Standardized Test Preparation

SSS-STEM scholars can receive both financial assistance and academic skill-building assistance to prepare for the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT), the Dental Admission Test (DAT), the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and other entrance exams.

College and Cultural Tours

SSS-STEM scholars have the opportunity to visit various local, regional and national colleges to find the perfect graduate school for them.

Career Development and STEM Exploration

SSS-STEM students can participate in workshops, summits and information sessions about various STEM careers and skill development.

SSS-STEM scholars have the opportunity to receive academic, housing, transportation and other accommodations as a component of LCI Student Accessibility Center.

Summer Access and Success Program

The Summer Access and Success Program is a four-week summer enrichment program to aid newly admitted freshmen and transfer students in their transition to North Carolina Central University.

  • United States citizen
  • Enrolled/planning to enroll at NCCU during the upcoming term
  • STEM major
  • Meet one or more of the following qualifications:
    • First-generation student
    • Limited income
    • Have a documented disability
