Welcome to North Carolina Central University’s School of Education, where candidates are prepared academically and professionally to assume socially responsible positions that improve the quality of life for North Carolinians. The School of Education prepares students to be “change agents” as they embark on professional careers in teaching, administration, counseling, technology, and related fields. Attaining excellence in education is important to the academic vision of the unit.
The School of Education is an intellectual community in which all members are valued. We support scholarly and creative ideas and encourage innovative and critical thinking. Through a continuous improvement process, culturally competent practice, collaborative involvement, intellectual advancement, and global awareness and immersion, we integrate social justice and community engagement.
Our faculty teach in innovative ways to engage and educate all students, fostering a spirit of inquiry. As a result, our students will pursue knowledge and develop logical curiosity; acquire a lifelong love of learning and discover how to learn independently; learn to make the world a better place by giving of their time and talents; celebrate and learn from diversity; and promote global education. Excellence is the key to all achievements.
The School of Education provides access to high-quality, authentic learning experiences that prepare individuals to teach, lead, and inspire. In the words of John Dewey, "education is not preparation for life; education is life itself."
A leader in the arena of educator preparation, NCCU School of Education is always focused on excellence and student success. Opportunities above and beyond the classroom setting facilitate charting a new landscape for student-centered success. We are focused on producing highly skilled, culturally responsive, and globally aware professionals. The SOE strives to prepare future educators to meet the needs of children and families in our communities and beyond. The culture of excellence permeates knowledge and learning in the School of Education.
We look forward to you joining our Eagle family.
