Office of Faculty Professional Development

The Office of Faculty Professional Development is a Title III Activity and is supported by Title III-B funding. The mission of the Office of Faculty Professional Development (OFPD) is to encourage excellence in teaching through programs for course development, redesign and improvement, implementation of research-based instructional strategies, and support services to faculty that encourage instructional development and efficiency in the workplace.

Our Goal

The overarching goal of the Activity is to provide tools and resources for faculty to help students to crystallize academic and social interests, focus on career goals, discover academic strengths and needs, and persist to graduation. The main purpose of the OFPD is to improve instruction quality for undergraduate and graduate student success.

OFPD 2025-2026 Objectives

The Title III objectives for the 2025–2026 academic year are as follows:

  1. To train at least thirty (30) faculty members across multiple disciplines in accelerating achievement using authentic learning experiences and assessments where generative AI tools can be used to develop or design student-centered courses to improve student learning outcomes during the 2025–2026 academic year.
  2. To facilitate the three (3) components of the University's Teaching Effectiveness Policy by supporting faculty in 25% of the academic departments in implementing peer evaluations, student feedback, and faculty self-reflections to identify areas for additional faculty or departmental support from the Office of Faculty Professional Development during the 2025-2026 academic year.

The OFPD 2025–2026 objectives align with the following NCCU Strategic Plan 2025–2030 goals and objectives:

  • Goal 1.3. Foster a culture of academic excellence by recruiting, supporting, and retaining exceptional faculty who advance the university’s mission through innovative teaching, impactful research, and meaningful community engagement.
  • Goal 4.1. Enhance performance and support internal growth opportunities for faculty and staff through investments in professional development.
