Opioid Abatement Coordinating Center

Established in 2022 with funding from the North Carolina Collaboratory, the North Carolina Central University Opioid Abatement Coordinating Center (OACC) supports efforts to combat opioid use disorder and overdose across the state. The OACC works in partnership with researchers, community-based organizations, and local governments to alleviate the burden of opioid use by:

Coordinating Statewide Initiatives

The NCCU OACC coordinates initiatives that prioritize multidisciplinary partnerships across university (research), public health, clinical care, policy, and community leadership.

Providing Assistance to Local Governments

The NCCU OACC helps local governments and their partners to monitor trends, identify gaps in service delivery, and advance data-informed strategies.

Engaging the Community

The NCCU OACC seeks to engage community-based organizations in a manner that will amplify community voices to ensure culturally responsive and scientifically grounded solutions.

 

Translating Basic Research

The NCCU OACC translates basic research to bring evidence-based treatment, harm reduction and prevention interventions into practice.
