North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Law, has been ranked No. 1 among the nation’s most innovative law schools by the National Jurist. Innovation at NCCU Law is grounded in our mission of advancing social justice while preparing students to lead in a technology-driven world.

An article by the National Jurist highlights the work of the NCCU Technology Law & Policy Center (TLPC), through which the law school equips students to practice law ethically and effectively in an increasingly digital society and profession.

NCCU Law is honored to be recognized alongside other law schools, including Berkeley, Suffolk and Nova Southeastern University.

The TLPC, one of only a few centers of its kind at an HBCU law school, empowers students to  address pressing issues at the intersection of technology and justice, including artificial intelligence, data privacy, cybersecurity and intellectual property. Through a combination of coursework, hands-on learning and community engagement, students build the technological and analytical skills needed to navigate complex legal and ethical challenges and to guide innovation in ways that serve the public good.

NCCU Law students earning the Law and Technology Certificate also complete 25 hours of technology-related pro bono service, gaining valuable real-world experience and reinforcing the School of Law’s commitment to service, excellence and access to justice.

“Innovation is at the heart of the NCCU School of Law’s mission to prepare practice-ready attorneys,” said April Dawson, who leads the NCCU Technology Law & Policy Center as the Associate Dean of Technology and Innovation, with the strong support of Executive Diane Littlejohn ‘10, Technology Law Fellow Miriam Johnson ‘18, and the previous director of Privacy and Cybersecurity program, Cedric Pickett ‘18.
