North Carolina Central University’s (NCCU) psychology program has been named the top psychology program among historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) for 2024, according to BestColleges.com.

Psychology degrees are increasingly popular as demand rises for mental health professionals. Yet, according to the American Psychological Association only 5% of practitioners are Black, highlighting the need for greater representation.

NCCU’s Department of Psychology offers both bachelor’s and master’s degrees, including an online bachelor’s degree program, providing students with a robust foundation in psychology theories and research skills. Graduates go on to careers in teaching, research, counseling and advanced studies.

Best Colleges evaluated the program based on affordability, student outcomes, flexibility, accessibility and admissions ease. These metrics were derived from Best Colleges’ College Choice and Admission Survey, which reflects top priorities of students nationwide.

Since 2014, Best Colleges has aimed to offer objective assessments of school and program quality, helping students make informed educational and career choices.
