NCCU Law to Host Screening and Panel for “Becoming Thurgood: America’s Social Architect”

The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Law will host a special screening and panel discussion for the PBS documentary “Becoming Thurgood: America’s Social Architect” on Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.  

The event will take place at the NCCU School of Law’s Great Hall and Moot Courtroom, located at 640 Nelson Street in Durham. 

Directed by Alexi Aggrey and executive produced by Emmy Award-winner Stanley Nelson (Firelight Films), the documentary chronicles the life, groundbreaking legal career and enduring impact of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. The film includes commentary from family members, historians and legal scholars, including NCCU School of Law Professor Irving Joyner, who will join the post-screening panel.  

The panel will be moderated by Kenia Thompson, host of PBS North Carolina's “Black Issues Forum.” Discussion topics will include Justice Marshall’s impact on American law and civil rights, as well as the vital role of historically Black colleges and universities in shaping legal education and the pursuit of justice. 

The screening is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Registration is required here.
