Greetings from the Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences in the College of Health and Sciences at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). We are physically located in the Mary Townes Sciences Complex, a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility where we train students as scholars, scientists and innovative thinkers.
The department offers two undergraduate degree programs. The first is our traditional B.S. in Biology. The second is an innovative degree of B.S. in Biomedical Sciences that was implemented in the Fall of 2018. Both undergraduate degrees prepare students for many career paths, such as those in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy and many other allied health fields, as well as master and doctoral programs in the biological and biomedical sciences.
At the graduate level, the department offers an M.S. degree in Biomedical Sciences. The department is also a major stakeholder in the Integrated Biosciences (INBS) Ph.D. program, as it provides curriculum and faculty that support the INBS doctoral program.
Our faculty consists of individuals with excellent, world-class credentials and research expertise in the various fields of biological and biomedical sciences, including microbiology, immunology, virology, neuroscience, toxicology, cardiovascular diseases and cancer biology. Several of our faculty have joint research appointments in the Julius L. Chamber’s Biomedical and Biotechnological Research Institute (JLC-BBRI). The department’s dedicated faculty is committed to teaching, research and service. We place student success first and central in all that we do.
