Our distinguished faculty provide creative teaching, valuable research that impacts students and the surrounding community, as well as hands-on experiential learning that leads to engaging, high-impact careers.
Our mission is to prepare students to become practitioners and global leaders who transform communities. The department offers an enhanced curriculum, innovative instruction, distinct research activities, and various applied opportunities such as internships, practicums, service-learning, and community engagement, all valuing the comprehensive preparation of leaders who positively impact the global community's well-being.
As artificial intelligence transforms our professions, we are committed to preparing students to work alongside AI within kinesiology, recreation administration, sports medicine, and our graduate program — from data-driven movement and performance analysis to intelligent tools for recreation programming, emerging technologies in injury prevention and rehabilitation, and graduate research that responsibly integrates AI into practice. Learning to collaborate with these technologies is an essential skill for the next generation of leaders, and our curriculum reflects that commitment.
Currently, we house more than 607 students and more than 20 faculty. Our faculty come from varied backgrounds, incorporating global learning experiences and collaborative research with our students on specialized topics within our fields.
The department offers undergraduate degrees in sports medicine; kinesiology (concentrations in fitness and wellness, strength and conditioning, and physical education); online kinesiology (fitness and wellness); and recreation administration (concentrations in parks and recreation management, recreational sports management with a business or coaching minor, and recreational therapy), plus an accelerated baccalaureate/master's program in recreation administration. Graduate programs include kinesiology and recreation administration (athletic administration and recreation management) and online options in adapted sports science and recreation, kinesiology, and recreational therapy.
Graduates are well prepared for physical therapy or occupational therapy graduate schools and careers in allied health, physical education, sport coaching, adapted sport administration, athletic administration, parks and recreation, and Paralympic and Olympic positions worldwide.
Our Eagles soar to great heights within the Department of Kinesiology and Recreation Administration.
We would like to welcome you to our Nest!
