Dear Eagles,
“Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible” -St. Francis of Assisi
After exams end, December is a time for rest, rejuvenation, and reflection. Along with students, we encourage University College staff to reenergize during the Winter Break. Mental, social, and physical health is an important part of a college education.
Rest
With fall courses nearing completion, Winter Break is an excellent time to reconnect with family and friends. Although many students struggle with a consistent sleep schedule during the fall semester, Winter Break is an ideal opportunity to catch up. University College wishes you a restful break.
Rejuvenate
Beyond sleep, students can find rest in reading for fun, hobbies, working out, and connecting with others. Refresh your mind, take a break from academics, and encourage one another. Discover what inspires you or explore new sources of inspiration.
Reflect
As you rejuvenate away from classes, reflect on your academics and major. University College encourages you to choose your major by the end of the first year for a timely graduation in four years. While fall semester grades measure success and may prompt change, a single failure does not necessitate a large change.
Repeated failures may signal a need for a new direction. Consult your academic advisor to discuss changes to your Spring schedule. Staff are here throughout December and starting January 2 to explore options. Beyond major changes, evaluate study strategies, note-taking practices, and schedules that contributed to your success. If fall grades were not as desired, consider adjusting study skills, note-taking, or time management for Spring.
