AI Emerging Scholars and Leaders Programs
Empowering the Next Generation of AI Innovators and Influencers at NCCU
The AI Emerging Scholars and Leaders Programs, hosted by the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Research (IAIER) at NCCU, are year-long initiatives designed to support student, faculty, and staff development in artificial intelligence through leadership, mentoring, hands-on projects, and professional growth. This initiative is in collaboration with Information Technology Services, Student Affairs, the Office of e-Learning, and the Office of Faculty and Professional Development.

Who Should Apply:
We encourage applications from current NCCU students (undergraduate or graduate) with a GPA of 2.75 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate) or higher and an interest in artificial intelligence.
Program Benefits:
- $4,000 stipend
- Certificate of completion and a digital badge
- Mentorship and networking
- Project showcase and award ceremony (April 2026)
- Recognition through IAIER and campus-wide communications
Expectations:
- Attend IAIER sessions and workshops and possibly lead some sessions
- Complete an applied AI project
- Participate in mentoring
- Engage with IAIER events and the broader campus AI community

Note: Only 10 student scholars will be selected.
Who Should Apply:
We encourage applications from all full-time NCCU faculty and staff who:
- Have attended at least one IAIER event
- Faculty only: Have participated in OFPD or e-Learning workshops
- Are interested in AI and also serving as a mentor
- Are interested in utilizing AI to improve productivity
- Are interested in incorporating AI in a course or developing an AI course
Program Benefits:
- Faculty: $2,500 stipend
- Certificate of completion and a digital badge
- Public recognition
- Letter of support for inclusion in annual reviews from the provost/chancellor
- Campus-wide celebration at the April 2026 showcase
Expectations:
- Lead or co-lead an IAIER session
- Mentor student scholars
- Complete a mini-project
- Attend all scheduled meetings/events
