REACT4

NCCU’s Role

North Carolina Central University (NCCU), guided by its enduring mission of “Truth and Service,” serves as the lead university for the State of North Carolina’s REACT4 project, supporting community priorities of sustainable environmental practices and advancing renewable energy solutions throughout North Carolina.

We commit to addressing disparities in environmental policies through a truth-driven approach, focusing on equitable solutions and community well-being. Our dedication to fair environmental practices and clean energy transition, with efforts to secure funding and sustainability, reflects NCCU's dedication to marginalized communities. By honoring our history of truth and service, we aim to create a healthier, more just future for all.

Environmental Quality

We advocate for the equitable treatment and substantive participation of all individuals, regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, in the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.

We Address Environmental Issues

We address environmental issues by tackling exposure to hazards, poor air, water, and soil quality, enhancing climate change resilience, promoting clean energy transitions, and transforming former mine land.

We provide support through identifying and applying for funding, navigating online government systems, connecting with experts, supporting partnerships with other organizations, engaging with local and state government, and offering connections, training, and resources that are in-person, web-based, subject-specific, state-specific, multilingual, and culturally appropriate.

We serve the following: community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, local municipalities, NC tribal communities, and federally recognized tribal nations.

RTI International and the Environmental Protection Network are regional partners who work closely with our state partners. Together, we serve EPA Region 4's eight states.
