1. Purpose

The purpose of this regulation is to establish the requirements for ordering, managing, and providing textbooks and related course materials that students are required to purchase for courses taught at North Carolina Central University (NCCU).

2. Scope

This regulation applies to all University faculty members and academic departments placing orders for textbooks and required course materials.

3. NCCU Bookstore

3.1. General Statement

3.1.1   The NCCU Bookstore operates under contract with a third-party vendor and exists to serve the campus community. Central to the mission of the University, the NCCU Bookstore provides textbooks and other items necessary for student coursework. In addition, the bookstore offers supplies and services normally expected of a university bookstore.

3.1.2   As the official university bookstore, the NCCU Bookstore is committed to ensuring that all required textbooks and course pack materials are available to NCCU students in a timely, convenient manner. To achieve this, the guidelines outlined in this regulation have been established.

3.2   Orders for Textbooks

3.2.1  Faculty members are required to place textbook and required course pack orders through the NCCU Bookstore. Orders not placed through the Bookstore may prevent students from utilizing important services such as the textbook rental program, or from applying scholarship, grant, or financial aid funds toward the purchase of course materials..

3.2.2  Faculty must submit textbook adoptions on or before the published due dates.  The Higher Education Opportunity Act, the UNC System Office, and NCCU’s Chancellor require textbook information to be made available to students as early as possible. Early submission deadlines ensure compliance with these requirements.

3.2.3   Textbook adoption due dates are as follows:

  • Summer Semester: March 24,
  • Fall Semester: April 15,
  • Spring Semester: October 15

3.2.4   Faculty must submit textbook adoptions online by accessing Canvas and selecting the book ordering tab; further instructions can be provided by Academic Affairs. Faculty should follow the provided instructions to enter all required textbook information.
