It is my privilege to serve as chair of a dynamic department committed to student success, academic excellence, and preparing students to make meaningful contributions in their professions and communities.
The Department of Social Work is home to the Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.), Master of Social Work (M.S.W.), and Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS) programs and provides Sociology courses that support the University’s General Education Curriculum and other academic disciplines. Through these academic offerings, students have opportunities to deepen their understanding of people, communities, social systems, and the complex issues shaping our society.
At the heart of our department is a commitment to student success and an educational experience that extends beyond the classroom. Through academic preparation, experiential learning, mentorship, professional development, community engagement, and leadership opportunities, students are prepared to grow personally and professionally and pursue their educational and career goals. Our faculty bring expertise in teaching, scholarship, professional practice, and service, while our partnerships with agencies, organizations, alumni, and community professionals provide opportunities for students to connect what they learn in the classroom with real-world experiences.
As we look toward the future, we remain committed to strengthening our academic programs, expanding access and opportunities for students, embracing innovation in teaching and learning, and building partnerships that respond to the evolving needs of our students, professions, and communities.
Whether you are a prospective student exploring your academic options, a current student pursuing your educational and professional goals, an alum continuing to represent NCCU in your community, or a community partner working alongside us, you are an important part of our department.
I invite you to explore our programs, connect with our faculty and students, and learn more about the many ways the Department of Social Work is preparing students to serve, lead, and create meaningful change.
