Nu Gamma Chapter of the Phi Alpha Honor Society

• Become a member of the Social Work National Honor Society (includes a scholarship opportunity, opportunity for awards and chapter grants)
• Participate in community service and social action events
• Partner with colleagues and professors on social issues
• Create a scholarly environment
• Receive a certificate and a lapel pin

B.S.W. Students:

• Must be accepted in the Social Work program (have a B.S.W. program acceptance letter)
• Must have achieved sophomore status
• Must have completed 9 semester hours or more of required social work courses
• Must have achieved an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Must have achieved a 3.25 GPA in social work courses

M.S.W. Students:

• Must have completed one term of coursework with a minimum number of 6 semester hours of required social work courses
• Must have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher

• Membership application for Phi Alpha National Honor Society
• Membership fees (National: $30)(Nu Gamma: $15 per semester)
• Narrative (limit to two pages) stating your reasons for wanting to join Phi Alpha
• Unofficial transcript
• Two letters of reference typed on letterhead
  • One academic reference from a professor who can speak to your academic and leadership capabilities
  • One community service reference from a professional who can speak to your community involvement

• We accept applications in the Fall and Spring.
• Applications are due on September 30 and March 1.
• Applications, along with the fees, are turned in to Mr. McDowell (Miller-Morgan Room 202).
