University College Advisor Selected for National Emerging Leaders Program

Posted July 14, 2025, 10:45AM

Ashley Anderson, an academic advisor in University College at North Carolina Central University (NCCU), has been selected as a member of the 2025-2027 NACADA Emerging Leaders Program. The competitive, two-year leadership development initiative begins in fall 2025 and accepts only 12 mentees nationwide each year.

Hosted by NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising, the program is designed to strengthen leadership skills, expand professional connections and promote the advancement of academic advising. The initiative prepares mentees to grow into mentors and take on leadership roles within the organization. Participants also attend NACADA’s national conference and engage in year-round development opportunities.

Anderson will be paired with a NACADA mentor and take part in leadership training, collaborative projects and networking with advising professionals across the country. The experience will support her work at NCCU, where she advises students in various majors and contributes to student success initiatives.

This recognition builds on Anderson’s recent momentum. In fall 2024, she received the Christy Carlson Memorial Scholarship through NACADA and attended her first professional conference.

She joined University College in 2024 after earning a master’s degree in student affairs administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Anderson will begin UNC-Greensboro’s Ph.D. program in educational studies in fall 2025.
