No. 1 in military financial assistance; No. 2 online college for active-duty military and veterans overall
North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has been recognized as one of the nation’s best online colleges for active-duty military and veterans, earning the No. 2 overall spot and No. 1 seat for military financial assistance in Forbes Advisor’s latest rankings.
NCCU was the only historically Black college or university named to the list.
Forbes Advisor evaluated more than 3,600 colleges based on factors, including affordability and student outcomes, with data sources from the U.S. Department of Education’s Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System.
“Our online programs are about making a college education work for today’s students, wherever they are and wherever they are headed,” said Kimberly Phifer-McGhee, Ed.D., associate vice chancellor for extended studies and student support. “We’re proud to see that commitment reflected in this recognition, and even more proud of the opportunities we’re creating for students to reach their goals and build their futures.”
NCCU’s continues to expand it online offerings and strengthen pathways for students seeking flexible, high-quality educational opportunities. Online programs remain the fastest-growing sector at NCCU, fueled by a 47.2% enrollment increase over the past year through the NCCU Flight Path program.
Military enrollment has also increased by 6.9% over the past year, supported by strategic partnerships with military installations across North Carolina and the dedicated resources of the NCCU’s Office of Veteran Affairs.
“NCCU’s military-affiliated students, including active-duty service members, veterans, military spouses and dependents, bring strength, resilience and real-world experience to our university,” said Ariel Aponte, associate vice chancellor for military affairs. “They know what it means to serve, support their families and keep pushing forward, and we’re committed to providing the support, resources and financial assistance they need to succeed from enrollment through graduation.”
