NCCU School of Law Welcomes Class of 2028 at Pinning Ceremony

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Law welcomed the class of 2028 during its annual pinning ceremony, held on Aug. 14, in the Miller-Morgan Health Sciences Building Auditorium. This year’s incoming class of 134 students were celebrated by family, faculty, staff and alumni as they officially began their journey into the legal profession. 

The ceremony, a tradition that symbolizes the start of law school, featured NCCU School of Law alumni who pinned the new students, reinforcing the law school’s legacy of mentorship and community. 

This year’s class is as multifacted in background as it is talented. The cohort includes 110 day students and 23 evening students, ranging in age from 20 to 50, with a median age of 24. Women make up the majority of the class, with 94 women and 39 men enrolled. 

The class of 2028 represents a wide variety of institutions and academic backgrounds.  

Students hail from historically Black colleges and universities, including Howard University, Hampton University, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University and North Carolina A&T State University, as well as top feeder schools such as The University of North Carolina at–Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University and The University of North Carolinaat Charlotte. Undergraduate majors include business administration, criminal justice, English, humanities and political science. 

Judge Dorothy Hairston Mitchell, ‘02, of the North Carolina 16th Judicial District, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of living up to the values of being Eagles, a tribute not only to NCCU’s mascot, but also to the spirit of excellence, service and leadership that defines the university community.
