Dear NCCU Family,
It is with a heavy heart that I share the loss of Ms. Kelly Bryant, a graduate student in our School of Library and Information Sciences (SLIS), who transitioned on Thursday, July 29.
A native of Wisconsin, Kelly held a master’s degree in higher education and was pursuing her second graduate degree at NCCU in library science, with a concentration in academic librarianship. She was determined to complete her degree, even if it meant taking one class at a time, demonstrating her strength, discipline and deep love for learning.
Kelly touched the SLIS community with her compassionate spirit, quiet strength and passion for the library and information science (LIS) field. A humble, inquisitive student, she consistently sought meaningful connections and was dedicated to helping academic libraries empower students and adult learners alike.
Her curiosity extended beyond the classroom. During the annual SLIS Study Abroad trip to London, Kelly fully engaged with LIS professionals across the city, asking thoughtful questions and immersing herself in the global landscape of the field she loved. Her presence was impactful, marked by a commitment to advancing the LIS profession and shaping its future.
I know that this news may be difficult for many. Students are encouraged to seek support as needed. Counseling services are available by calling 919-530-7646 or visiting the Student Health Building, second floor. Details regarding Kelly’s memorial service will be shared when available. In the meantime, let us hold space in our hearts for her beautiful spirit and the many lives she touched.
