North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has been recognized among the top historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU) with online programs, according to the 2024 Forbes Advisor list.

Ranked at No. 5, NCCU Online programs were analyzed based on credibility, affordability, student outcomes, student experience and application process. Data for these categories were pulled from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System as well as private, third-party sources and individual school and program websites.

Kimberly Phifer-McGhee, Ed.D., associate vice chancellor for extended studies and student support, credits the success of NCCU Online to the dedication and collaborative commitment shared among faculty, staff and students.

“NCCU faculty have played an instrumental role in crafting and delivering high-quality, engaging, relevant and accessible instruction, while instructional designers and support personnel have worked diligently to ensure seamless program operations,” she said. “Additionally, the active engagement, motivation and commitment of students have been vital to the continued success of NCCU Online.”

Forbes Advisor also gave top honors to the university’s online RN-BSN program, which ranked No. 1 in the state, and No. 3 in the nation. The program is designed for registered nurses who are licensed to practice in North Carolina.

The nursing program recently partnered with Project Kitty Hawk, a nonprofit ed-tech startup that aids University of North Carolina System universities in serving adult learners. In 2021, the state budget allocated $97 million for the effort.

NCCU Online offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and certificates across various disciplines, ranging from criminal justice to digital librarianship.
