NCCU Misinformation on Social Media, Oct. 16

Posted October 16, 2023, 6:14PM

Dear NCCU Community:

Your safety is the institution’s main priority and we would like to correct false information that is circulating on social media.

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) was NOT on lockdown and there was NO active shooter on campus today. There is NO imminent risk to campus; however, in the event of such risk, the community would be notified by way of the University's emergency system and NCCU would initiate emergency response procedures.

More specifically, the NCCU Police and Public Safety Department were working with other law enforcement agencies to investigate a ‘social media threat’ received this morning. Again, this event does not pose an imminent risk to campus; however, NCCU Police asks that anyone with information regarding the ‘social media threat’ notify them immediately at 919-530-6106.

Thank you,

The Office of Communications and Marketing
