An associate professor of music at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has received the ASCAP Plus Award for 2025.
Lance Hulme, DMA, was recognized by the American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP), an organization that tracks performance royalties.
The ASCAP Plus Awards is determined by an independent panel of music experts who are not affiliated with ASCAP.
“It’s a peer-based ranking,” Hulme said.
Hulme is a composer whose most recent CD collection “Leaps & Bounds” includes Appalachian folk, medieval chant, solo piano, jazz and even a piece which juxtaposes rock-inspired flute with Japanese Shakuhachi music.
He is pleased to receive the ASCAP award, which is accompanied by a small cash award.
“It’s very satisfying and reassuring of where I stand in the music community,” Hulme said.
