My Dearest NCCU Family:
I’m deeply saddened to share that Sulaimane Bangura, a rising third-year law student, passed away on Tuesday, July 8.
A proud native of Monrovia, Liberia, Sulaimane embodied the spirit of a true Legal Eagle. With an anticipated graduation date of May 2026, he was well on his way to making a meaningful impact in the legal field. Sulaimane was currently serving in a prestigious externship with the Honorable Anita Earls, associate justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. His dedication, intellect and warm spirit made him a beloved member of the law school community who was admired by his peers, professors and mentors.
During this time of profound grief, I encourage our community to seek support as needed. NCCU law students may reach out to Brett Bowers, director of wellness, via email at [email protected] or by phone at 919-530-5156 (office) or 919-801-9010 (mobile).
Counseling services are also available in the Student Health Building. Students may call 919-530-7646 or visit the second floor, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drop-in hours are available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., though there may be a short wait. For crisis support after 5 p.m., the same contact number may be used.
Faculty and staff may access ComPsych guidance resources through the university’s HR page.
Details regarding Sulaimane’s funeral services will be shared when available. Please keep his family, friends, professors and classmates in your thoughts and prayers.
In Truth and Service,
