SOAR, designed to help you make a smooth transition to life at NCCU, is for first-time students who have recently graduated from high school and transfer students from a community college or other four-year institutions. During this orientation, you will immerse yourself in NCCU's traditions, campus culture and academic programs. You will also learn about the exciting new experiences and challenges you may encounter during your first year, including academic expectations and student life.
Priority registration for Fall 2020 SOAR is open until August 3, 2020.
Greetings, New Eagle!
As we adapt to changes regarding COVID-19, all July in-person orientation sessions are postponed to a later date, closer to the start of the semester.
To provide the best orientation experience, we will be providing virtual SOAR sessions, in conjunction with the Eagle Advantage Online Modules, to interact and engage with various campus partners and prepare for your on-campus experience. Module information and access will be forthcoming and will be sent to you in the upcoming weeks via email.
As a result of these changes, the cost for orientation is $225. Upon registration, this fee will be applied to your Fall 2020 student bill. The cost of orientation includes the $100 enrollment fee, giveaways during the in-person session, and other administrative expenses. Guests who have already registered or plan to register will take part in activities planned during the scheduled move-in of their student.
Note: For any student who has already registered, no further action needs to be taken on your part. All students who paid a $325 payment or a $295 payment will receive a $100 or $70 credit, respectively, to their student account.
Fall 2020 SOAR Orientation
Part 1: Eagle Advantage Design Pre-SOAR Online Modules
Once students have registered for a SOAR date, they will be given access to Eagle Advantage. These online modules are designed to provide students with information about campus resources, academic requirements, behavioral expectations, campus policies and engagement opportunities. Students must complete the modules within seven days.
Part 2: Course Advising and Registration
Once students have completed the Eagle Advantage modules, they can register for courses. Students will be contacted by an academic advisor to set up virtual registration appointments. An advisor within University College will contact first-year students, and upon evaluation of official transcripts, the Office of Transfer Services or University College will contact transfer students.
Part 3: In-Person One-Day Orientation
During the in-person orientation, students will meet their orientation leader, learn about campus culture and resources, and connect with other first-year students. There will be panel discussions and engagement opportunities throughout the day. University faculty, staff, and administrators will welcome the Class of 2024 to the Nest.
