Overview
North Carolina Central University School of Graduate Studies understands that some students may have a need for assistance to transition to post-undergraduate collegiate writing. The workshop encourages students to be aware of the conventions of academic writing and attentive to its differences across disciplines. With the assistance of various instructors within the university, we will discuss writing various forms of academic writing and the role of disciplinary differences in college writing assignments, as well as offer a refresher of the basics. There will be an opportunity for students to receive feedback on written submissions and learn methods for elevating their writing skills.
Writing
You are more than likely aware of the various graduate programs that are offered at NCCU; however, you may not be aware of are the differences in writing requirements across different disciplines. They will ask different kinds of questions, have different methods of answering questions, use sources differently and require different formats. You may have had excellent writing skills during your undergraduate education but have transitioned to a different discipline that may have different requirements. No student is expected to know how to write in all disciplines, but knowing the differences is a big step towards a successful graduate-level academic experience.
