Join us for this seminar recital!
"Singing Justice: Recovering the African American Voice in Song" will center the creative contributions of Black musicians, poets, singers and composers through song (words and music).
The project has developed an innovative format for musical expression — the “seminar recital” — that casts musical performance as an act of research and involves listeners as collaborative participants in the creation of knowledge.
Singing Justice is led by a team of renowned performers and scholars aspiring to “disrupt” longstanding and limited narratives in musicology. Their research aims to decenter whiteness in vocal music and bring more diversity to it.
This "collaboratory" will take place on October 16 at 7 p.m. in the New Jazz Rehearsal Room beside BN Duke Auditorium. Attendees will participate by commenting during the performance via QR codes.
The researchers will lead a panel discussion of their work at 10:40 a.m. on October 17 in the C. Ruth Edward Music Building, Room 202.
