Rebecca Stubbs
Rebecca Stubbs is a passionate archivist and historian who is currently the audiovisual materials archivist for the State Archives of North Carolina in Raleigh, NC. She earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a master's degree in history with a concentration in public history and archives from North Carolina Central University, in 2016 and 2019, respectively. Throughout her academic and professional career, Rebecca cultivated a deep love for preserving history through safeguarding essential records, specifically photographs, while connecting communities to their collective past.
Transitioning from undergraduate to graduate school, Rebecca worked with Preservation NC to successfully assist in placing the College Heights community of Durham on the National Register of Historic Places. During her tenure working in Wilson Special Collections Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Rebecca gained expertise in archival technical services, including arrangement, description and processing extensive collections. This led to her master's thesis being centered around the Black and African American experience in western North Carolina, a topic seldom explored.
Rebecca found her joy in sharing the narratives of community members through historical photographs and other audiovisual materials.
"I am excited to be returning to the place I call HOME. I loved my experience so much in undergrad — I went back for grad school and now — returning to teach. Full circle."
