Robert Stagg
Mr. Stagg currently serves as an associate professor of public safety administration at Wake Technical Community College. He brings more than 50 years of experience in homeland security–related disciplines, including law enforcement, emergency medical services, emergency preparedness, and private-sector security consulting and training. In addition to his role at Wake Tech, he has served as an adjunct instructor at North Carolina Central University since 1985 and is also an adjunct instructor at East Carolina University. Earlier in his career, he served as program director for criminal justice and fire protection technology at Durham Technical Community College.
Mr. Stagg possesses extensive expertise in homeland security, critical infrastructure protection, continuity planning, policy development and review, threat and risk assessment, and the design and delivery of preparedness and response training programs. His professional background includes operational experience in law enforcement and emergency medical response, providing a practical foundation for teaching and applied research in security and resilience.
Mr. Stagg is a graduate of East Carolina University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) credential from the American Society for Industrial Security and is recognized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a Level I Continuity Planner.
He serves on two National Fire Protection Association technical committees — Loss Prevention Procedures and Practices (NFPA 600, Facility Fire Brigades, and NFPA 601, Security Services in Fire Loss Prevention) and Premises Security (NFPA 730, Premises Security, and NFPA 731, Selection of Electronic Premises Security Systems). He is also an active member of the Wake County Fire Commission, the Wake County Drug Overdose Prevention Coalition, and the Wake County Local Emergency Planning Committee, where his work supports community resilience and emergency preparedness.
In addition, Mr. Stagg has served on advisory boards addressing safer schools, workplace incivility, and terrorism, contributing subject-matter expertise to initiatives focused on prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery within the homeland security mission.
