Pamela R Davis
Pamela R. Davis, Ph.D., M.A., is an adjunct professor for the College of Arts and Social Sciences. Her specialty areas include sociology, public policies, and women’s gender studies.
Dr. Davis has a passion for teaching and uses this platform to raise awareness of social issues. She knows that there are various sociocultural factors that influence a person’s position and outcome in society. Thus, she wants to help students to identify these factors and effect change when possible. She strives to ensure that students have the tools needed for academic success. She believes that “even though the interpretations and meanings we assign to our immediate surroundings can differ, basically, we all have an inherent interest in others and our surrounding environment. To understand others, we need to engage in a collaborative manner so that we can learn together.”
Her commitment to student success extends beyond the classroom. She is an Alzheimer’s and hospice advocate and the founder of an outreach ministry that supports and educates community members on issues and resources to help facilitate a successful and healthy life outcome. She integrates this information into a teaching model in her courses to help students who are experiencing challenges with elderly parents and others within their immediate community.
Dr. Davis has been teaching social science courses for nine years and has presented and written chapters of books and publications on Alzheimer’s and the aging process. Her research foci have been on public policy and the political landscape of caregiving, with a central focus on women care providers.
Dr. Davis earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in sociology from North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC. She holds a doctorate degree in humanities and culture with a secondary focus in public policy and social change, as well as a women’s gender studies certificate, from Union Institute and University, Cincinnati, Ohio.
