Dr. Nathan Gill is an adjunct professor of history at North Carolina Central University, teaching courses on world history since 1450. His research focuses on the environmental history of the pre-Columbian and early colonial Americas, with special interests in environmental conflict and forced labor in the South American Andes. He earned his Ph.D. in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2025.
Dr. Gill has taught courses on Latin American history and environmental history at Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill and serves as a visiting research associate professor at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador. He previously worked as a journalist and bureau chief for Bloomberg News in Latin America, covering governments, economies, and natural resource markets across the region for eleven years.
