Marcus Lawing

Marcus Lawing is a criminal justice practitioner and educator with multidisciplinary experience across local, state, federal, and private-sector systems, specializing in interviewing and interrogations, homeland security, and applied security operations. 

Mr. Lawing has served in varied professional capacities, including as a violent crimes officer, a crisis intervention specialist (CIT), and a victims advocate in local law enforcement; as a federal investigator and anti-terrorism task force officer assigned to joint operations with the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Defense (DOD); as a public defender investigator for the State of North Carolina; and in specialized roles as a financial crimes consultant, an administrative investigator for the North Carolina Licensing Board, and a licensed private investigator. 

His academic preparation includes a master’s degree in criminal justice with a specialization in homeland security from the University of Arizona, a graduate certificate in security studies and political science from East Carolina University, and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from East Carolina University. As an educator, Mr. Lawing emphasizes evidence-based instruction, experiential learning, and critical analysis, integrating research, professional practice, and applied methodologies to prepare students for ethical decision-making, operational competence, and professional leadership within contemporary criminal justice.
