Michael A Bailey
It is my honor and privilege to serve as the Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Transfer Services at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). In this role, I proudly support the missions of both the Division of Academic Affairs and the Division of Enrollment Management as we work to attract, enroll, and support a vibrant and talented community of future Eagles.
I am responsible for leading strategic recruitment initiatives, participating in high-impact outreach programs, strengthening partnerships with schools and organizations, monitoring the undergraduate admissions process, and providing direction to our dedicated Undergraduate Admissions and Transfer Services teams. Our goal is to ensure every prospective student and family receives a welcoming, informed, and authentic experience that reflects the excellence of NCCU.
Since joining NCCU in 1994, I have served in numerous roles, including admissions counselor, associate director of Undergraduate Admissions, associate director of First-Year Orientation, interim director of the Alfonso Elder Student Union, transportation coordinator, and special assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Beyond our campus, I have had the privilege of serving in administrative roles at several other institutions, including the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Fayetteville State University, Purdue University (main campus), Brunswick Community College, and Halifax Community College.
Throughout my career, I have proudly represented NCCU and the broader higher education community by serving on local, regional, and national educational boards, helping shape conversations around college access, equity, and student success. My work has extended to public service as well, with appointments under Governors James B. Hunt and Beverly E. Perdue through the Departments of Commerce and Public Instruction, where I supported statewide initiatives to advance educational opportunity and workforce development.
As a graduate of NCCU, I remain deeply committed to the university’s mission and legacy. I earned bachelor’s degrees in political science and public administration and later completed a master's degree in human services executive leadership from Liberty University. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration.
It is with great EAGLE PRIDE and unwavering enthusiasm that I welcome and celebrate the appointment of Dr. Karrie G. Dixon as the 13th Chancellor of North Carolina Central University. A distinguished leader, visionary educator, and trailblazer within the UNC System, Chancellor Dixon brings a depth of experience, integrity, and bold leadership that will elevate NCCU to unprecedented heights. Her appointment not only marks a new era in our university’s history, but it also inspires confidence in a future grounded in progress, unity, and transformation.
Under her leadership, NCCU has launched Soaring to New Heights: Vision 2030, a bold and inclusive strategic plan designed to position our institution for sustainable excellence and national prominence. This plan is more than a framework. It reflects the collective voice, values, and aspirations of our community.
Rooted in our proud legacy and focused firmly on the future, Vision 2030 articulates our shared mission: to prepare global leaders and practitioners who uplift and empower communities. It declares a compelling vision: to be a globally recognized catalyst for academic excellence, research innovation, and community impact.
Our path forward is shaped by five strategic pillars:
1. Academic Excellence
2. Student Experience
3. Institutional Sustainability
4. Operational Excellence
5. Transformational Engagement
Each pillar strengthens our foundation and expands our impact. And under Chancellor Dixon’s leadership, it's marked by collaboration, transparency, and results-driven focus. I am confident NCCU will continue to serve as a beacon of opportunity, justice, and excellence.
As we step boldly into this new chapter, I invite each of you to see yourselves in this journey. Whether through scholarship, service, leadership, or advocacy, you play a crucial role in shaping the future of NCCU.
Thank you for your continued support of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Together, and under the guidance of Chancellor Dixon, we will ensure that future generations of Eagles are well prepared to rise, serve, and soar.
