Faye Calhoun

Dr. Calhoun serves as special assistant to the Chancellor for Partnerships and Cooperative Agreements. In that capacity, she is the director of the NCCU-Duke Partnership Agreement that addresses pilot studies, community engagement and workforce development and serves as an advisor for several other Duke programs.

Until September 2018, Dr. Calhoun served as interim director of the Biomanufacturing Research Institute and Technology Enterprise. She was formerly the associate director of the JLC Biomedical/Biotechnology Research Institute. From 2012 to 2015, she served as program director for the North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation grant program to increase the number of students graduating from majors in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). From 2009 to 2011, she served as interim director for the JLC Biomedical, Biotechnology Research Institute and as special assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development.

Dr. Calhoun retired from the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, as the deputy director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. She has received numerous awards for her work in increasing grant funding, developing programs to increase minority faculty and students involved in research and for international research on fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. During her career at NIH, she served as the deputy chief for review of the then Division of Research Grants (currently the Center for Scientific Review).
