Brenda Womble
Having joined NCCU in 1983, Brenda teaches Elements of Speech in the Mass Communication department. From the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, she received her graduate degree in Oral Interpretation of Literature (now Performance Studies). She is a USA winner in Reader’s Theater and the author of a novel entitled “Guns of Ava” — a true story of a highly decorated Vietnam War veteran, Ken Dula.
With some enthusiastic NCCU student actors and an outpouring of community, the book has successfully toured as a stage play for 5 years. Recently, Brenda compiled a coffee table book for author Curtis Jackson, Jr. entitled “If You Were Not Black.” Gaining rave reviews, the book was aired by Steve Daniels of ABC as a news special for Black History Month. In addition, Brenda assisted director and producer Willie Hodges of Meko Media as the casting director, script supervisor and associate producer for his featured family film.
She offers writing workshops during the summer months for students and aspiring writers. In her classroom, students are trained in professionalism for the corporate sector with knowledge and confidence. When not in the classroom, you may find her in her favorite café with a cup of coffee and a cookie working on her next literary project.
