Overview
The College of Arts and Sciences is where cultural and intellectual diversity meet. With majors in the sciences, the humanities, and the arts, the college has a culture of collaboration that encourages students to discover their own path. From producing documentary films to conducting drug discovery and health disparities research, students learn to explore ideas, think critically, and communicate clearly and concisely. State-of-the-art laboratories, master classes with jazz legends, and guest lectures with global thought leaders are a part of the everyday experiences that students enjoy.
The research possibilities are limitless at NC Central, in part because of two multi-million dollar research facilities headed by STEM scholar-researchers who lead the way in health disparities research, improving the health of underrepresented communities across the globe. Science majors at NC Central have the opportunity to study on six continents in fields as varied as tropical pathology and infectious diseases and seismic activity.
World-class performance, recording, and research opportunities prepare Department of Music graduates to become leaders in the arts. Music faculty include legendary jazz artists, Metropolitan Opera principal performers, and members of award-winning vocal and jazz ensembles. Through the NC Central Art Museum, visual artists have the opportunity to showcase their work alongside major works by African-American artists and others dealing with the black experience
From history to graphic design, the College of Arts and Sciences provides an opportunity for self-inquiry, research, and career exploration. The college offers 13 undergraduate programs, eight master programs, and a PhD in Integrated Biosciences.
