About the Blackboard Office

The Faculty Development Den and Blackboard Office is a part of the Division of Extended Studies - Distance Education. The Faculty Development Den and Blackboard Office provide campus-wide support, specializing in professional development, instructional design support and best practices for in-person, online and hybrid delivery formats.

Blackboard has been North Carolina Central University’s learning management system (LMS) since 1998. Our Blackboard Learn system is upgraded regularly to ensure the system is running efficiently and all tools are current and operating correctly. We are currently operating Blackboard 9.1 Learn SaaS, Original Course View.

The Faculty Development Den and Blackboard Office are located in the Farrison-Newton Communications Building, Room 128.

The Faculty Development Den and Blackboard Office are comprised of two Instructional Technologist Specialists with the role of Blackboard System Administrator. As the LMS administrators, they provide the following for the university:

• Technical support for faculty, staff and students
• Monitor day-to-day administrations of the Blackboard LMS
• Plan and monitor system upgrades (including third-party vendors)
• Develop and facilitate Blackboard training for faculty and staff
• Meet with Blackboard support services
• Collaborate and perform technical integrations for Blackboard and Banner)
