Rodney Johnson Jr., a native of Halifax, Virginia, grew up in a military family, which exposed him to varied cultures and people, shaping his appreciation for multiculturalism and connection. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in 2016 but then felt called to education, where he could help young people build both personal and professional skills. Johnson began his career at Northwoods Park Middle School as a career and technical education teacher and serves as an educator and mentor for Onslow County Schools. Over his seven-year teaching career, he has been named teacher of the year in 2020 and a top-five teacher in Onslow County.
Johnson is the founder of Gentlemen of Quality, a mentoring program that empowers young men to develop confidence, leadership and purpose. He has held numerous events for youth in his community, such as male summits, leadership workshops and intensives, and career and college prep events for high schoolers. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in School Administration. Outside of education, Rodney serves as a youth leader, community advocate and speaker, committed to making a lasting impact.
