Dr. R. Davis Dixon is an assistant professor of developmental psychology at Hampton University in Hampton, VA. Currently, Davis conducts research that explores how to create safe and welcoming school environments by affirming the identity and humanity of Black students. He takes pride in connecting with his students and mentoring the next generation of Black psychologists.
Davis has presented at conferences across the nation on Black student achievement and has published research findings on cultural identity and issues of mattering and belonging for elementary students. Previously, Davis was a senior associate for P-12 research at the Education Trust, a nonprofit, education civil rights organization. In this role, he conducted research to inform discussion and debate among education decision-makers at the national, state, and local levels.
A Charlotte, NC, native, Davis graduated summa cum laude from North Carolina Central University, where he was a member of the Marching Sound Machine, the Zeta Sigma chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, Inc., and the Gamma Beta chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He then went on to earn a Master of Science and Ph.D. in developmental psychology at Howard University.
