Dr. Patrice Parker Waller is an associate professor of secondary mathematics education at California State University, Fullerton, where she coordinates the Foundational Level Math credential program. Dr. Waller has helped to prepare over 60 secondary mathematics teachers in Virginia and California. She holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Teaching and Learning with a concentration in Mathematics Education from Georgia State University.
Her research interests include culturally responsive mathematics teaching in secondary mathematics and teaching and learning mathematics abroad. Patrice has authored and co-authored more than 13 articles and book chapters and conducted more than 25 presentations in these areas.
Dr. Waller has traveled to several countries, including Brazil, Belize, South Africa, Morocco, and Ghana, to explore the teaching of mathematics and to examine instances of mathematics embedded in various cultures. She has also taken 14 pre-service math teachers to Johannesburg, South Africa, to teach mathematics in schools, while exploring different aspects of culture. Patrice is the co-principal investigator (PI) of a 1.5 million-dollar NSF Noyce grant that provides funding and activities to support students as they prepare to become mathematics teachers. She is committed to the continuous improvement of mathematics instruction in secondary and post-secondary education.
