Marcus Allen Shields is a native of Sumter, South Carolina. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in experimental psychology from the University of South Carolina- Columbia. He is a proud 2011 graduate of the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Law.
From 2018 to 2022, Shields served as a district court judge in Guilford County, North Carolina. He founded the Greensboro law firm, Shields PLLC. He previously represented indigent clients as an assistant public defender and at North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services. Shields has also served as an attorney in small- and medium-sized law firms.
Shields is a professor at Elon University School of Law and High Point University Law School, a mediator and an arbitrator. Shields is a board member for the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro and the Children’s Law Center (Central North Carolina). He is past president of the Greensboro Bar Association and Guilford County Association of Black Lawyers. Shields is an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
