Current Career Title: Public information communications analyst, City of Durham
Imani Johnson’s passion and experience in advocacy, governmental policy and community engagement prepared her for success as a public information officer for the City of Durham, North Carolina. In this role, she leads the marketing, communications, public relations and community outreach initiatives for the city’s Transportation department.
Internationally, through the Association for Commuter Transportation, she serves as a conference chair and on the professional development committee. Last year, she was recognized as the Southeast Member of the Year for using her creativity to inspire and uplift agency members.
On campus, Johnson served as the 78th Miss NCCU and became known as “the Central Lady.”
Her efforts to boost student morale during the COVID-19 pandemic led to her being the first Miss NCCU to win the HBCU Queen of the Year and the National Miss Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Service Awards.
Imani prides herself on being a woman of faith, creativity and innovation.
