Alicia L. Andrews, M.Ed. is from Ayden, North Carolina, and a 2007 graduate of North Carolina Central University’s Department of Public Health Education. Andrews is committed to advancing sexual health equity, youth development and community empowerment in rural and disparate communities.
She currently serves as both director of education and outreach and project coordinator at Duke University’s Center for Health Policy and Inequalities Research. Andrews leads two major adolescent health initiatives across seven counties in Eastern North Carolina and is also the founder of BeFree Wellness Education & Consulting, LLC.
With more than 15 years of experience — from HIV prevention education in Durham to community-based testing in Wake County — her work has secured more than $1 million in federal and state funding to support teen pregnancy prevention and sexual health education.
Andrews organized Ayden’s first Juneteenth Health & Wellness Festival and hosted a high school alumni basketball tournament and food drive. She is a proud aunt of twin nephews and is grounded by the love of her parents — Lillie, William and bonus mom Barbara.
