Crystal McLean is a registered dietitian (RD) who earned her second bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics and completed her graduate RD training from North Carolina Central University. She holds a master’s degree in applied nutrition from the University of New England and completed her dietetic internship through NCCU.
Prior to her career change to dietetics, Crystal earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and worked in office administration and project management. Her previous work experience provides her with unique insight on office management, time management, and interdisciplinary project collaboration, as well as expertise in managing complex projects and products — skills that strengthen her leadership in advancing clinical operations and patient-centered nutrition care.
Crystal is now the owner of a private nutrition counseling practice where she specializes in digestive health, preventative nutrition, heart health, weight management and sports nutrition. She brings additional experience from her work at WakeMed as a PRN inpatient clinical dietitian. She is deeply committed to supporting underserved populations and approaches care with compassion, meeting each patient where they are.
Crystal believes that nutrition counseling should be both empowering and enjoyable. She works to create a supportive environment where individuals feel confident in making sustainable choices that enhance their overall health and well-being. She is excited to be returning to NCCU to support the community and to work alongside the faculty and university that helped mold her to become the dietitian that she is today.
