NCCU Community:
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Durham and surrounding areas, effective Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, through Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026. There is potential for significant wintry precipitation, including large amounts of snow starting late Friday afternoon, and concerns for power outages and dangerously cold temperatures persisting into early next week.
The university will operate under Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) of the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy effective on Friday, Jan. 30, at 4 p.m., through Sunday, Feb. 1, at 11:59 p.m. Classes starting at 4 p.m. or later on Friday, Jan. 30, are cancelled, and all non-essential campus operations are suspended during this period.
Students should work with their professors and employees should work with their managers should this present any challenges.
Residential students who have the ability to leave safely should shelter at home or with family/friends as early as possible on Friday, Jan. 30, due to the potential for city power outages and other hazardous conditions. Students remaining on campus must complete the Remain-on-Campus Notification provided by Residential Life.
If conditions require relocation, students will be directed to report to a designated on-campus location. An Eagle Alert will notify students of the need and process to relocate. Do not relocate on campus unless instructed.
University leadership will continue to assess conditions in and around campus and issue further guidance on operations for the week on Sunday, Feb. 1.
EMPLOYEES
Faculty and staff should take reasonable precautions for personal safety. Mandatory employees, as determined by their supervisor, are required to report to work. Supervisors may allow non-mandatory employees to work virtually. If an employee is unable to report to work due to weather conditions or is unable to work virtually, that employee must take leave consistent with the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy.
