Individual Counseling
One-on-one sessions with a counselor can help students define goals, make decisions, and solve problems related to personal, social, educational, and career concerns. Appointments are recommended, but crisis counseling is available during regular business hours. After hours, you may reach us through the Residential Life staff or the University Police.
Group Counseling
Group counseling offers students the opportunity to learn from one another as well as from the group leader. For more information, please contact the Counseling Center regarding the types of groups offered (e.g., process, support, or psycho-educational).
Outreach
Counselors are available to host workshops in classrooms and residence halls. Outreach activities include annual screening events for depression, anxiety, eating disorders, alcohol use, REACH (Resilient Eagles Advancing Campus Health), and Mental Health First Aid. For all outreach requests, please submit the Counseling Services Outreach Request Form at least 3 weeks prior to your requested date.
Consultation
Are you concerned about a friend, student, or loved one? Counselors are available for confidential in-person and phone consultations during business hours.
Training and Assistantships
Training and assistantships are available to master-level counselor education and clinical psychology students through graduate assistantships, practicums, and internship placements. If you are interested in an assistantship or training placement at the Counseling Center, please send a resume and letter of interest to Dr. Carolyn Moore at cmoore@nccu.edu at the end of the semester. Applicants must have clearance through their internship or practicum coordinator to be considered for a placement. We welcome non-NCCU applicants from neighboring schools.
