The Men's Achievement Center

At NCCU, we strive to equip every student with programs to help them succeed academically, socially and personally.

North Carolina Central University Men's Achievement Center (MAC) is committed to enriching the quality of students' collegiate experience and ensuring their success at NCCU and beyond.

Programs

MAC Brothers

The MAC Brothers Initiative allows younger MAC brothers to grow while learning from the brothers who paved the way before them. This initiative focuses on skills development to allow our members to adjust to college life and prepare them to be global leaders upon graduation. For additional information about MAC Brothers, please email [email protected] or call 919-530-6064.

AAMI

Upon acceptance into NCCU, African American males are invited to join AAMI, live in the Living Learning Community and participate in program activities. After an application process in late spring/summer, AAMI students are accepted into a cohort of 40 men. Members participate in academic, leadership, identity, financial, and spiritual development, as well as opportunities to experience a sense of manhood/masculinity and brotherhood.

Alumni Sponsors

Alumni Sponsors

Our Alumni sponsors help our program participants secure job opportunities, internships and mentor support, as well as donating to provide substantial support throughout the school year. As a committed alum, you may already be giving to NCCU in other ways. However, a gift to the Men's Achievement Center's and AAMI is the only way to support the programming directly. Your contribution helps with engaging community programs, signature celebrations such as reunions and Homecoming, scholarships, career support and mentors, and educational and networking events.

Latino Males

As we continue to provide outstanding retention services for African American males on the campus of North Carolina Central University, we also know that the research points to the need for attention to the progress of Latino males and their graduation rates. The Latino Initiative will provide a concrete graduation plan for students who enroll and create an opportunity that will remove barriers within the 4-year college trajectory. The Men's Achievement Center is now enrolling for Cohort 1 of the Latino Male Initiative.

Recognized as a First-Gen Forward Institution

Through the Men’s Achievement Center, retention rates for African American males have increased on campus, with a 94% retention rate for the 2018–2019 academic year and 89% for the 2019–2020 academic year. The Center has joined the First-Gen Forward 2021 Cohort, through the Center for First-Generation Student Success, to focus on higher education access for first-generation African American males. The goal of the MAC is to increase the enrollment of rural male students and expand the reach of the MAC throughout NCCU and the University of North Carolina System.
